- Step 3See your resultsUnderstand how you meet the requirements or not, and why.
The Eligibility Checker sets your answers beside the Student visa (subclass 500) requirements in the Migration Regulations and the Department of Home Affairs' instruments. The checker gives general information, not migration advice. The Department decides every visa application, and its Student visa page has the full requirements.
Why it matters, and what happens next
Why check before you apply
The Department of Home Affairs can refuse a Student visa application that misses a requirement. The checker shows, before anything is lodged, which requirements your answers already meet and which ones need work.
- A requirement marked Fixable, such as an English score or the money to show, can be fixed before the application.
- Where you apply from changed on 2 October 2026. Holders of a Student, graduate, visitor or Working Holiday visa in Australia now apply from outside Australia, with some exceptions for students.
- The answers also show which course, English plan and money plan fit the visa after the course.
What the checker reads
- Where you areOutside Australia, or in Australia and on which visa. The visa held decides where the application is made.
- EnglishA test score, a test still to book, or study in English. The Department of Home Affairs publishes the scores it accepts.
- MoneyThe money you can show for the first 12 months. The Department sets a figure for living costs, course fees and travel.
- AgeAge for the student visa, and for the graduate visa after the course when work or permanent residency is the goal.
- Genuine StudentHow the course fits your study and work so far. The Department reads this from the application.
- Charge and processingThe visa application charge for your passport, and the order the Department processes applications in.
